Te Papa Tū Whirinaki | The Landscape Foundation
Landscape affects every one of us, whether we were born here, are now living here, or whether we are travelling through New Zealand. Landscape affects our aspirations, the places we live in, who we are and what we identify with.
The NZILA Education Foundation was registered by the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects in 1999 as a charitable trust.
In 2015 the NZILA Education Foundation was renamed the Landscape Foundation. In 2022 the foundation was honoured to receive the name Te Papa Tū Whirinaki from Dee Issacs.
Te Papa Tū Whirinaki The Landscape Foundation aims to draw attention to landscape change and aims to explore options for managing the landscape using the very best techniques and knowledge.
This foundation has now published its first book - KIA WHAKANUIA TE WHENUA - People place landscape. There is a discount available for students, so please contact us if you would like to buy the book with this discount added.
The book is Māori-led, and it explores the spirit of whenua and how it is embedded in place through identity and naming. It confronts the pain of alienation and whenua loss for all indigenous peoples and looks at how that can be transformed.
Forty different authors contributed articles, including perspectives from Aboriginal, American Indian and Irish landscape architects as well as Māori and Pakeha.
Kia Whakanuia te Whenua offers solutions to understanding place, in how to weave Matauranga mauri and scientific knowledge systems together to protect the essence of our landscapes.
