Registration via Graduate Mentoring
The Graduate Mentoring Pathway is the standard route to becoming a Registered Landscape Architect in Aotearoa.
Who this is for
- Graduate Members of NZILA
- Graduates from an accredited, IFLA-recognised landscape architecture programme
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional practice (preferably 4), including at least 1 year in New Zealand
- A Registered Mentor who supports your application and professional development
- 60 weeks minimum mentoring, enrolment closes 1 August each year
- Participation in mentoring sessions and group workshops
- Submission of an Assessment Workbook, portfolio, and CV
- Attendance at the Registration Interview
Key steps
- Choose a Mentor (must be Registered for at least 2 years)
- Enrol online (an invoice for $100 + GST will be issued)
- Meet regularly with your Mentor to track progress. Your mentor is a key assessor of your competency and will be signing off various assessment criteria along the way.
- Attend compulsory group mentoring workshops and optional seminars
- Complete your Assessment Workbook and portfolio
- Submit your application by 30 September in the year you plan to interview
- Attend the Registration Interview in November

Mentoring
You can apply for mentoring anytime, noting the requirement is minimum 60 weeks so the deadline each year is 1 August to meet requirements for interviews the following November.
You will be invoiced $100 + GST once you have applied and your mentor has accepted. Your participation in the programme will be confirmed once the invoice is paid.

An invoice for the application fee of $499 + GST will be issued on receipt of the application.
