Ka Rere Te Manu sets out the updated pathway to Registration for 2027 applicants, with new guidance for prospective applicants and Registered members supporting the programme.
The NZILA Registration Programme is changing, with an updated process taking effect for members applying for Registration in 2027.
The updated programme is intended to better reflect contemporary landscape architecture practice in Aotearoa New Zealand and provide a clearer, more consistent pathway to becoming a Registered Landscape Architect.
New Registration guide available
Ka Rere Te Manu: A Guide to Becoming a Registered Landscape Architect is now available to NZILA members through the member dashboard.
The guide outlines the updated Registration pathways, programme requirements and the steps applicants will work through on their journey towards Registration. This is the first release of the guide and it will continue to be refined and updated over time.
Thinking about Registration?
If you are considering becoming a Registered Landscape Architect, now is a good time to start planning.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to:
- read Ka Rere Te Manu and familiarise themselves with the updated programme
- identify the Registration pathway that applies to them
- begin thinking about a suitable mentor, where required
- prepare their application ahead of the relevant deadline.
Upcoming application deadlines are:
- 31 August 2026: Graduate and Affiliate Mentoring Pathways for the 2027 programme
- 30 September 2026: Reciprocity and Established Pathways for the 2026 programme
- 30 May 2027: Reciprocity and Established Pathways for the 2027 programme
Registered members can help too
Registered Landscape Architects continue to play an important role in supporting people through the Registration process.
That might mean mentoring an applicant, encouraging someone in your practice or wider network to consider Registration, or contributing to the programme as an assessor, panel member or in another programme role.
Further information about opportunities for Registered members to become involved will be shared over the coming month.
The updated programme has been developed through the Registration Working Group, with input and oversight from across NZILA. We acknowledge the time and contribution of Working Group members in helping bring this next stage of the Registration Programme together.
NZILA members can access Ka Rere Te Manu now through their member dashboard.
