Applications now open for the 2026 Preserving Legacies Climate Heritage Cohort

Applications are now open for the 2026 Climate Heritage Cohort, part of the Preserving Legacies programme led by ICOMOS and funded by National Geographic. This is a fully funded, three–year journey that supports communities to safeguard cultural and natural heritage in the face of climate change.
What the programme offers
Over three years, successful applicants take part in:
- A free 12–month training programme in climate science, heritage, adaptation strategies, and Indigenous and local knowledge
- Mentoring, virtual workshops, and a fully funded international workshopSupport to lead a climate risk assessment for your community
- Seed grants, targeted training, and expert connections
- A global network of peers working to strengthen climate resilience through heritage
Who can apply
The programme is open to iwi, hapū, and community organisations involved in caring for cultural, natural, or historic places. Applicants should be ready for long-term commitment and able to participate in online learning and in-person exchanges.
Key dates
- Applications close: 5 January 2026
- Programme begins 1 March 2026
- Virtual information session on 4 December (EST)
