Biosecurity has amended the Plants for Planting import health standard (formally importation of Nursery Stock), effective 15 September 2025.

Urgent amendment to Plants for Planting (155.02.06) -

The Plants for Planting import health standard (IHS) has been urgently amended as Coleonema has been identified as a host of Xylella fastidiosa. Coleonema now falls under the Coleonema schedule in the IHS. This change has been reflected on the Plants Biosecurity Index | PIER Search | MPI | NZ Govt.

Minor amendment to Plants for Planting (155.02.06) -

The Plants for Planting import health standard has been amended as follow:

  • Vaccinium tissue culture (options 2 & 3) have had the additional measures for Phytophthora ramorum fixed, as these were not translated correctly during the reformat of the IHS in August 2025.
  • The approved countries for Alstroemeria were reworded to make it clear that there is also an option to import tissue cultures from India and South Africa.
  • We have clarified when a permit and PEQ will be required for hosts of Xylella fastidiosa and phytoplasmas. We have clarified this in subclauses 2.4.1, 2.4.3, 2.5.2, and 2.5.3 and all relevant schedules.
  • We have unsuspended all commodity types of Chlorophytum and Dacrydium and have unsuspended whole plants and cuttings of Cymbidium.
  • We have also fixed minor typos, grammar errors and missing links.
