NZ Society of Authors - Te Puni Kaituni O Aoteraroa - NZSA Heritage Literary Awards 2021
Kia Whakanuia Te Whenua came second in the Heritage Literary Awards, non fiction section for 2021, out of a total number of 65 entries.
Jacky Bowring, Professor of landscape architecture at Lincoln University and Wayne Knox the General Manager of Te Matapihi - National Māori Housing advocate - both authors of articles in the book attended the event and accepted the certificates and prize on the Landscape Foundation's behalf.
The judges commented:
“This fresh and timely Māori-led collection is bursting with knowledge that focuses on ideas concerning whenua, tinana and wairua to intervene in ways of thinking about people and landscape. It is both broad and sweeping and pragmatic and applied. The result is a beautifully produced and powerful intervention into current debates concerning the fields of traditional science and western science that extends how heritage itself is defined.”
It is a great honour to be recognised nationally and just reward for all the hard work put in by the trustees, the illustrator and the publisher. It is also recognition of the Landscape Foundation’s ability to recognise and respond to contemporary issues:
Copies are still available for sale online for $55 plus $6 postage – although numbers are diminishing – plus the wonderful Waiari Macmillan images used to illustrate the chapters are also available. Order now via the Landscape Foundation website..
