Leading LAs were quick to point out the complexities of the profession
"There is a perception that we pick the plants ... we're the people who come in and put in the green fluff," says Nicole Thompson of Wraight and Associates when LAA posed the question of how the landscape architecture profession is misunderstood.
"Sometimes people think we pretty up the edges of buildings," says Catherine Hamilton of WSP Opus. But the leading LAs we spoke to on the subject were quick to point out the complexities of the profession. Catherine points out "our role is fundamental to creating, protecting and enhancing our important landscapes."
LandLAB's Henry Crothers says "absolutely we are misunderstood. Landscape is a challenging word for us because certain values are associated with it."
Rachel de Lambert of Boffa Miskell reckons every landscape architect gets asked how to prune roses and she believes people really don't understand the breadth of the role.
