Discussion document on proposed new legislation

The Government has released a discussion document on proposed new legislation to set up publicly-controlled urban development authorities (UDAs).

UDAs have the potential to address a range of issues the country is grappling with (housing supply, replacement of aging infrastructure, provision of new infrastructure to accommodate growth) and facilitate the adoption of innovative technologies, and new ways of working, living and moving around.

In this Envirolink, we discuss whether the UDAs are likely to leave a positive economic and social legacy in New Zealand.

Also highlighting; The Government's proposed amendments to the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2014, the arrival of Clare Sinnott, the new Special Counsel in Wellington, and the new Resource Management Act reforms, heading into its final vote before parliament.
