About the role | Ko te mahi nei
As a Landscape Architect, you'll play a leading role in shaping some of Christchurch's most important public spaces and infrastructure projects. From urban streetscapes and waterways to parks, reserves, wetlands and civic environments, you'll help create landscapes that are sustainable, resilient, and inspiring.
You will;
- Lead the development of landscape designs, masterplans, and long-term strategies.
- Collaborate with planners, engineers, ecologists, urban designers and project managers on complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Assess and approve subdivision landscape and street tree plans
- Provide expert landscape planning advice for resource consents, district planning, and policy development.
- Engage with consultants, developers, community groups, government agencies and Tangata Whenua.
- Champion innovative design solutions that deliver exceptional outcomes for our City and environment.
This isn't just another design role.
You'll have the opportunity to influence projects across an entire city, balancing environmental outcomes, urban growth, recreation, biodiversity, infrastructure, and community wellbeing. One day you might be contributing to the future of a wetland restoration project. The next, providing expert evidence for a planning hearing or leading the landscape vision for a major capital development.

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
We're looking for someone who combines technical expertise with creativity, collaboration, and a passion for making great places.
You'll ideally have:
- A degree in Landscape Architecture
- 5 to 8 years of post-graduate experience, including experience working on large or complex projects.
- Strong landscape planning, design and project delivery experience.
- Knowledge of the Resource Management Act, District Plans, and the consenting process.
- Experience in public sector or local government environment.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- NZILA registration (or working towards it).
- A full New Zealand driver's licence.

- Hours of work - 37.5-40 hours per week
- Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street, Christchurch
- Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $96,465 to $107,183 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
