Wānaka

About us

Over the last 15 years RMM Landscape Architects has built a reputation for producing high quality work, developing and maintaining strong client relationships, establishing a unique working environment, and generally being a great bunch of people to work with!

With 35 staff and studios in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Whakatū Nelson, Wānaka, and Ōtepoti Dunedin, we’re committed to delivering thoughtful design solutions through creative, innovative and sustainable practices that connect people to their environments.

Our clients value our ability to deliver the full suite of landscape architectural design and assessment services, and we deliver a wide range of projects to our public and private sector clients, spanning from early project ideation, master planning and concept design through to detailed design and construction observation.

Coupling sustained growth over the past five years with our aspiration to be the most authentic, connected and creative design practice in Aotearoa, means we’re looking to strengthen our design and delivery capability across the motu.

Your Opportunity

We are looking for a full-time intermediate landscape architect to join our Wānaka studio. The role will suit someone with 4+ years’ experience who has strong design skills, is adaptive, curiously creative, and able to work independently while under the guidance of senior leaders.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate attention to detail while delivering across all stages of design, from concept through to construction documentation. Strong problem-solving skills, an ability to work collaboratively and a pro-active approach to workload management are also important attributes for this position.

Why Join RMM?

  • You want to be part of a design business that is focused on delivering great work.
  • You’re looking for a fun, close knit and supportive culture; we work hard but don’t lose sight of need to enjoy ourselves
  • You can picture yourself bringing your experiences and new ideas to a practice that continues to grow and evolve its portfolio of work and culture of design.
  • You’re looking for a role that requires a degree of autonomy, personal responsibility, and provides an opportunity for you to interact with clients and project partners.
  • You’re on the pathway to professional registration, and are looking for the support to achieve that goal.
  • Great central studio locations, team morning teas, music in the workplace, and great coffee appeal to you.
  • The thought of working a 9-day fortnight sounds pretty good! Yes, we enjoy every second Friday off (paid).
  • We offer additional employment benefits, including an annual well-being fund, group insurance scheme, employment assistance programme, volunteer leave, birthday leave, professional development leave, professional membership fees and cell phone plans.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a Bachelor (Hons) or Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture.
  • Has 4+ years’ professional experience in landscape architecture.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills, has experience working with other consultants as part of a project team and is looking for an opportunity to interact with clients, project partners and the local design industry.
  • Has a sense of humour, and wants to be part of a tight knit, collaborative and supportive team that is focused on achieving design excellence.
  • Is adaptable and looking for variety in their day-to-day work.
  • Has good time-management skills and displays attention to detail.
  • Has designed and delivered projects in the land development, public realm and residential markets, and has experience designing and preparing documentation from concept to construction.
  • Exhibits strong digital capability, including proficiency in CAD (ideally Vectorworks) and Adobe Creative Suite. 3D modelling and rendering skills would be valuable.
  • Conversely, the ability to hand sketch would be an advantage, as would a working knowledge of hard and softscape materials in the Southern Lakes district.
