The Tāmaki Makaura Design Ope at Auckland Council is one of the most influential landscape and urban design teams in the city and one of the largest public sector design teams in the country. We are home to the Auckland Urban Design Panel, the Auckland Design Manual (ADM) and the City Centre Masterplan (CCMP), and we are recognised for our ability to shape the urban design and landscape conversations in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Experiencing unprecedented growth and investment in transport infrastructure, centre revitalisation, public and private housing, commercial development, and public realm transformation, Tāmaki Makaurau is a rapidly changing city. This is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, and we will continue to play a key role in shaping the direction that the city takes - ensuring maximum benefit for all. We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Landscape Architect to join us with this mahi.
He angitūtanga: The opportunity
As a Principal Landscape Architect, you will provide landscape architecture and urban design leadership, strategic direction setting, expert advice and input into:
• Public realm upgrades in the city centre
• The Auckland Unitary Plan
• The Auckland Design Manual
• Public and private development proposals
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership abilities as you will be required to assist and support other landscape architects and urban designers across the Ope. You will also need strategic dexterity to influence and operate successfully across large and often complex stakeholder groups. You can view a copy of the position description here.
He kōrero mōu: About you
You have a graduate or postgraduate qualification in landscape architecture - an urban design qualification would also be beneficial. You have a minimum of 7 years experience working in the areas of landscape architecture, public realm design, placemaking, urban design, design guidance and/or spatial direction setting.
You are experienced working with a wide range of community groups, elected members and key stakeholders, and have strong written and oral communication skills. You have proficient graphic communication skills including hand drawing, the use of Adobe Creative Suite, and Sketch-Up and / or a CAD platform.
