Landscape Assessment Specialist

Hastings, Hawkes Bay

We’re a small practice with great projects.

We’re looking for an experienced landscape architect who specialises in assessment and planning.

Based in Hastings, Wayfinder works with clients across the country to help them plan, design, consent and develop their projects. This includes a wide range of renewable energy projects (wind, solar and hydro), transmission and telecommunication projects, and land development. Primarily our work relates to the design or assessment of projects, but we are also heavily involved with public, stakeholder and mana whenua engagement.

We are proud of our team values. We work closely together, in an office environment, where everyone openly shares and contributes to the work we deliver as a team. Most of our work is generated through client relationships, which we maintain through focussing on project values, engagement and quality communication. We like to think of our work as storytelling, and we seek out ways to help clients and stakeholders build mental pictures of proposals and their outcomes.

We are, and wish to remain, a specialist landscape architecture business. We work closely with a network of related professionals, including planners, engineers, surveyors, architects and lawyers. We regularly come together as a multidisciplinary team, and we have shared client relationships.

We’re looking for someone who can take a leading role in assisting our clients through the consenting stages of their projects. We think of this person as a landscape architect at their core, but who has skills in capturing and explaining narratives through language and writing. A solid understanding of Māori cultural values is important.

Collectively the team will provide support through the development of appropriate imagery, including maps, ZTVs, visualisations, 3D modelling and augmented reality – as appropriate to the project. We need someone who can manage client relationships directly, and work with the team to build and maintain our client base. National travel will be regularly required to undertake site work and attend hearings.

Once embedded into the team, we can discuss the opportunity to take part in the business-funded employee share scheme that leads to partial ownership. We can also consider what longer-term contributions to the business might look like, which could include directorship opportunities. We of course provide a competitive remuneration package.

We have a great office in central Hastings. Whilst we have flexible working arrangements, you will need to relocate to Hawke’s Bay and you will be expected in the office most days. Working together is a core value of our business, and we are looking for someone who both leads and supports, and is willing to adapt to the work we need to deliver for our clients.

We work hard, drink coffee, eat chocolate, leave our shoes under our desks, love our weekends and share the office with our dogs.

If you’re interested in joining our team, please send us an email letting us know your capabilities, your interests, a little bit about yourself and why you think a move to Wayfinder would be right for you.

We look forward to hearing from you!
