We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Landscape Architect to join our Design and Placemaking team at Eke Panuku. In this role, you will provide design leadership and management to ensure quality urban design and public realm outcomes for Eke Panuku's regeneration programmes, with a strong focus on the City Centre.

You will play a key role in delivering on the City Centre Masterplan through actions defined in our cross-agency City Centre Action Plan. You will work collaboratively with our internal and external partners towards integrated design outcomes.

Projects will be at varying scales and levels of complexity such as public open space, laneway, and streetscape, to transport corridors, site planning and neighbourhood regeneration frameworks.

Day-to-day your role will include:

  • Design leadership for Eke Panuku, including technical advice and strategic input into our regeneration programmes, with a focus on the City Centre.
  • Working together with our placemakers to deliver place-led outcomes within multi-disciplinary, multi-agency teams.
  • Managing design quality through project lifecycles, managing external design teams on medium to large scale projects, including producing design briefs, establishing project outcomes, procuring consultants, having collaborative and creative input into the design process, and ultimately ensuring that Eke Panuku continues to create and deliver amazing spaces.
  • Being at the forefront of the delivery of significant projects for Tāmaki Makaurau including, proposed plazas, parks, playgrounds, streetscapes, walking and cycling initiatives with a regenerative design focus.
  • Review proposals from external consultants for design quality, write formal advice and negotiate design proposals in forums involving developers, their project design teams, other Eke Panuku directorates, Auckland Council and other CCO’s.
  • Provide advocacy and expert advice to Eke Panuku and its partners.

He kōrero mōu: About you

This role requires experience in Landscape Architecture and Public Realm roles. We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • 8+ years’ work experience as a Landscape Architect on a broad range of urban projects within the public realm seeing projects from strategic visioning, concept design to detailed design through to construction observation on site.
  • A passionate advocate for quality public realm design and the contribution it makes to our city.
  • Ability to switch from the macro scale of our regeneration programmes to the detail of reviewing and editing design work packages with attention to quality and detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead and champion design outcomes within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good working knowledge of best practice within public realm design, specifically town centre spaces and streets.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements (including consenting) and frameworks within the Local Government environment.
  • AutoCad, Sketch-up, Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) are beneficial.
  • Interest in regenerative design and systems thinking is a bonus.
