Understanding and Modelling River Behaviour Course
20 Oct, Ōtautahi | Christchurch
About
Rivers are dynamic systems that continually evolve through interactions between water, sediment, vegetation, climate, and the surrounding landscape. Understanding these processes is critical for effective river management, infrastructure planning, and interpretation of modelling results.
This workshop provides a practical introduction to river behaviour and modelling, combining theory, case studies, and real-world examples to build confidence in interpreting river processes and assessing model outputs.
What You'll Learn
We'll explore:
- How rivers function as part of a wider landscape system
- The mechanics behind river behaviour and change
- Why river systems are complex and non-linear
- The strengths and limitations of river modelling
- How to critically assess model outputs in real-world contexts
