CPD points: 0.5

NZILA Wellington Branch - Vote your preference for the People's Choice Category and attend the Ceremony 10th December, 6pm.

Purpose of the Awards
The Wellington Civic Trust Awards were established in 2002 by the Trustees to recognise projects which enhance the city and contribute to making Wellington the best city in which to work and live.  The Awards are held every second year.

This year the Awards focus on environment projects that reflect the unique, compact and essential character of Wellington city while the effort and creativity that goes into the design of the building, space or public art should go beyond the expected norm of developments in the city.

By keeping Wellington compact, this allows for a city that is walkable and minimises the need for new infrastructure. Future development will be directed to existing urban areas with good facilities and transport links.

Nature of the Awards
There are three categories for projects that enhance Wellington:

  1. Projects that enhance or protect the essential character of Wellington – Excellence Award
  2. Projects that preserve character buildings – the Grant Tilly Memorial Award
  3. The People’s Choice – for art and sculpture installations in public spaces

Nominations
Nominations for the Excellence and Grant Tilly Memorial Awards have closed. A list of entries in the People’s Choice category has been assembled by the Trust with the help of the Wellington Sculpture Trust, Wellington City Council and public nominations. The list includes controversial installations such as “Quasi” in the capital’s Civic Square.

The public can access the list by visiting Vote for the Peoples' Choice Award or the Trust’s website www.wellingtoncivictrust.org and casting a vote for one of the nominations, with one vote per person. Voting is open until the 8th December.

Awards Ceremony
The winners in each category will be announced by the Mayor of Wellington at an Awards ceremony on the 10th December. Invitations to the ceremony may be obtained on the Trust’s website or by visiting Wellington Civic Trust Awards Ceremony tickets.

An awards ceremony will be held in the Great Hall, Old Public Trust Building 131-135 Lambton Quay, Wellington. The ceremony will commence with refreshments from 6:00 PM and the successful nominations will be announced by the Mayor of Wellington.
