Street Innovations Design Challenge

22 Jul, Aotearoa New Zealand

Street Innovations Design Challenge

Supported by the Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI), Wellington City Council is seeking innovative solutions to create a city with streets designed for people through the Street Inovations Design Challenge.

Prizes
Designers with winning proposals will receive:

First place: $5000, with a chance to see your design brought to life on Wellington streets
Second place: $2500
Third place: $1000
All winners will have their designs published on the WCC website.

Refer to the full design brief, design guidance and technical requirements when participating in this challenge.

The winning design will move forward to the prototyping stage, giving the winning team the chance to:

  • Collaborate with local manufacturers to refine and create prototypes
  • Work with the Council to review the prototype
  • Your finalised prototype may be tested on one of our cycleways. We’ll monitor its performance, checking for durability, safety, and community feedback.

Learn from Industry Experts
Throughout the challenge, we’ll be hosting three webinars with experts from across the industry – from local and central government, manufacturers, civil construction, and industrial design. These sessions will include a presentation and the opportunity to ask questions to inform your design approach.

Webinar one: understanding the context of Wellington Streets
Webinar two: standards and guidelines for cycleway separation
Webinar three: practicalities of installing and making cycling infrastructure
