Hear from Biosecurity New Zealand, the Plant Pass team – including the Chief Executive of New Zealand Plant Producers Inc. - and Plant Pass Partner, Boffa Miskell Ltd, industry practitioner, on what Plant Pass means in practice for landscape architects, From understanding current and emerging pest and disease risks, to working confidently with certified plant producers, this session translates Plant Pass from programme language into landscape reality, with practical insights, real‑world experience and time for questions and discussion.
The webinar will highlight Plant Pass Partners as a growing network of organisations committed to strong biosecurity practice risk management practice. Becoming a Partner offers landscape architects an opportunity to be part of the conversation, help strengthen supply chain confidence and demonstrate leadership in managing biosecurity risk across design, delivery, and planting outcomes.
Speakers
Matthew Dolan is Chief Executive of New Zealand Plant Producers Inc (NZPPI) who are the scheme manager for Plant Pass. Matt has spent more than two decades working across the horticulture industry, with senior roles spanning plant production, quality assurance, grower engagement and industry leadership. He previously held roles at Horticulture New Zealand, ENZA, and T&G, and now leads NZPPI’s work on plant health and biosecurity, including the development and delivery of the Plant Pass certification scheme. Matthew is a strong advocate for industry‑led biosecurity systems that support practical risk management and resilient supply chains.
Karen Scott is the Plant Pass Programme Manager and leads the delivery and ongoing development of the Plant Pass nursery production standard for plant health and biosecurity. Karen works closely with plant producers, industry partners and agencies across the sector to support practical, industry‑led biosecurity systems. She is passionate about translating biosecurity requirements into workable, on‑the‑ground practices that build trust and resilience across New Zealand’s plant supply chains.
Jacinta Harrop is the Plant Pass Technical Specialist. She works directly with plant producers, partners and industry stakeholders to support the implementation of the Plant Pass certification scheme, including guiding nurseries through the certification journey and relevant modules. Jacinta has a background in horticulture and agriscience, and is passionate about practical, on‑the‑ground biosecurity solutions that strengthen plant health and build confidence across New Zealand’s plant supply chains.
Shelley Ashton is a Relationship Manager in the Pest Management Directorate of Biosecurity New Zealand at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), where she leads regional and business engagement across New Zealand. In this role, Shelley works closely with industry, business, science and research and regional partners to support practical and effective biosecurity outcomes nationwide. Her work in the Pest Management Directorate reflects a commitment to protecting New Zealand’s natural environments, designed landscapes and productive sectors through effective partnerships and clear, trusted engagement.
Gabe Ross is a Landscape Architect and Principal at Boffa Miskell Ltd who are members of the NZILA and a Plant Pass Partner.
