Our Landscape: Thinkers + Doers

26 Sep 2019, Wellington

CPD points: 0.5

Our Landscape 'Thinkers + Doers’ is a talk series established this year as a joint endeavour between NZILA Wellington and Victoria University’s Landscape Architecture Program. The series emanates from a desire to promote the sharing of ideas between landscape architects and other practitioners within the landscape realm. NZILA / VUW LA consider the talk series offers a valuable opportunity to hear and see how landscape is perceived and understood by a broad spectrum of enthusiastic intellects and practitioners. Our hope is to encourage dialogue, engagement and collaboration beyond disciplinary boundaries.

'Thinking and doing integrated water management to regenerate our city'

SPEAKER: Stu Farrant

Stu Farrant is an ecological engineer with a deep passion for how we can better manage water to regenerate, restore and respect our precious fresh and coastal waterways. He is the southern sector manager for Morphum Environmental Ltd, specialising in integrated urban water cycle management, water sensitive urban design and loves a good wetland.

The epitome of a thinker and doer, in his spare time Stu is actively involved in a number of restoration and conservation projects, he is the Wellington rep for The Sustainability Society, chaired the Te Awarua o Porirua Whaitua committee and was awarded a 2018 Winston Churchill Fellowship. This took Stu to Europe, Scandinavia and USA researching how globally leading cities have transitioned towards better urban water management.

If you’re a landscape architect in Wellington and don’t know who Stu is, this is the perfect opportunity for an introduction to Stu and Morphum’s work in the realm of integrated water cycle management. This will include his current transformative work in the SE Indian city of Vijayawada, the importance of the ‘D’ in WSUD and how we can best use ongoing redevelopment in Wellington as an opportunity for regenerative outcomes which return water to the landscape and support our unique urban ecologies.
