In this talk, Danish landscape architect Bettina Lamm will share her direct experiences in co-designing public spaces with children. Through her practice based research project Move the Neighbourhood Dr Lamm explores different methods for children’s participation in design. She considers how collaborative design approaches can contribute to the development of better integrated playful public spaces.

As well as creating better public spaces, Move the Neighbourhood also provided children with a voice into the more strategic municipal planning processes and area renewal processes in Copenhagen - processes that often bewilder even adult citizens!

Dr Bettina Lamm MAA is a landscape architect and associate professor at the Landscape Architecture and Planning division, University of Copenhagen.

Biography:
Lamm’s research addresses the interaction between urban environment and lived life in the public realm. She studies through practice and theory how temporary interventions, play design and art installations can facilitate social interaction in public space and reframe the urban landscape. Lamm is co-author of the book Playable that investigates the relation between, play, art and public space. She runs the practice based research project Move the Neighbourhood that explores collaborative design and construction methods in urban environments. She leads the Urban Intervention Studio where students build 1:1 interventions into landscapes in transformation. She was co-curator of the exhibition Urban Play where artists and architects created works in an industrial harbourscape as part of a transformation strategy and in the EU project SEEDS where a University of Copenhagen group explored temporary use as a development tool for reprogramming derelict urban spaces.
