Hawkes Bay Manawatu Branch Event: Creative City Conversation - The Carbon Landscape
14 Sep 2020, Palmerston North
Palmerston North City Council would like to invite all branch members to their first Creative City Conversation event to be held on 14 September.
"As a profession we are responsible for creating large volumes of carbon dioxide though our design work bit it could be argued that through planting we also trap carbon. The question is: Does our carbon consumption offset our carbon creation?"
Please join us to hear Craig Pocock present his research work on the Carbon Landscape. Craig will set the scene of landscape and open spaces projects being perceived by many at face-value as ‘green’ and sustainable’ and then go to pose the question - how ‘sustainable’ are these projects when applying a C02 cost to them? Going back through 14 years of his own practice projects, Craig calculates construction and maintenance costs as well as any offsets created to build a better picture of ‘sustainability’ of which shares his findings with you.
This is an interesting and critical think piece for those interested in the carbon conversation especially those involved in the managing, building and maintenance of cities.
The presentation will finish around 7pm. Any branch members who attend please feel free to stay on afterward for a quick meal and drink.
Creative City Conversations is a series of free public talks intended to raise a higher level of civic awareness, critical thinking and public discussion amongst residents, interest groups, business owners and city leaders on the future of our city. Please come join in on the conversation.
