Ecological Urbanism

20 May 2021, Victoria University, Wellington & Online

Are you concerned about;

• public space being lost to cars?
• the need for more pedestrian and green spaces?
• the lack of provisions for alternative and active (non-polluting) transport?
• the housing crisis?

Join the conversation with one of the world’s eminent urban ecologists, Salvador Rueda about how to move our cities towards a sustainable model.

Urbanhub Aotearoa in association with Victoria University of Wellington and the Embassy of Spain invites you to a free international event featuring a live conversation with Salvador Rueda.

This event will be important to policy specialists from central and local government, academics, design and transport professionals and climate change, transport, mobility and urban design advocates.

Participants will engage with Salvador and learn about the role of “ecological urbanism” and the tools available to mitigate our current transport and built environment crises.

In order to meet the emissions reduction targets we urgently need to adopt a sustainable and ecological urban model that reduces emissions and enhances liveability, biodiversity and social cohesion.

Salvador Rueda conceived the world renowned “ecosystemic urbanism” and “superblock” concepts (adopted by cities like Barcelona, Vitoria Gasteiz, Berlin, and Buenos Aires). Salvador is currently advising New York, Berlin and Montreal.

President and Director of the Urban and Territorial Ecology Foundation (created in 2021), Salvador was the director of the Barcelona Urban Ecology Agency for 20 years.

This event is part of the international series of webinars sharing global responses to city transformational processes organised in conjuction with Urbanhub Barcelona.
