Landscape Design opportunity to join our Wellington based landscape architecture practice as it moves into its next growth stage. You will have a broad scope to contribute and grow your career, playing an integral role in driving the growth and development of the practice.

Your role will include leading the conceptual design, documentation and delivery of a wide range of projects, as well as the opportunity is to lead people, build a team culture, drive design excellence, interface with internal and external clients and to work closely with our resident Principal and wider leadership team to build a sustainable design practice. Our Wellington design practice is 18 months old, growing a reputation and significant pipeline of projects across the central, spanning from the top of the South Island, up to Taranaki, across the Hawkes Bay and a lot of places in between!

In addition to the local and regional aspects of the role you will also be joining a national design practice with 60+ landscape architects, architects and urban designers based in five locations and delivering award winning projects across the Pacific. We’ve had a strong emphasis on building this nationally integrated practice over the past six years and we’ll be looking to people like you to bring fresh ideas and approaches to the table to help us continue our growth and development.

A significant differentiator in the Wellington team is the exposure to climate change sustainability design and carbon landscape design approaches working alongside local Principal Craig Pocock. He has been independently researching these concepts for 15 years and with changes in government polices the carbon landscape is not only a popular keynote presentation, but the team continues to research best practice low carbon urban and landscape design approaches. This role would be expected to be part of these conversations and thought leadership.

The Wellington team are also developing into complex social, economic and environmental focused projects such as the Spatial Social and Economic Development Plan of Parihaka, the development of Kokohuia Wetlands for the economic uplift of the local community or the facilitation of Hapu back on to their whenua such as the New Plymouth airport Wananga.

You’ll have experience in delivering projects from concept to construction and you’ll know what it takes to lead delivery teams and collaborate with other disciplines. Importantly, you’ll appreciate the value that creative design thinking can bring to all projects regardless of their scale, typology and budget and you will be excited by the prospect of helping communities realise their potential. Sustainable design outcomes need to be important to you and helping to advance our unique carbon landscape offering. You will be driven by a collaborative approach to design and be excited by the opportunity to build a local design team, that seeks design excellence and is committed to fostering a culture of design at local and national levels and within a broader professional services business. You will be motivated and ready to grow your career, design, consulting, leadership and professional skills. You will enjoy working with clients and building relationships, thinking strategically, being commercial and developing thought leadership. Overall, you will be excited by a challenge, working with ambiguity, and in a role with variety.

Motivated by playing an active part in a broader national landscape architecture team with a creative and enquiring approach to design
Experienced at delivering design projects from conceptualization through to delivery and build stages and be excited by working on a variety of projects
Credible, comfortable and effective in interacting with clients, successfully pursuing, bidding and wining project commissions
Able to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams with excellent communication skills, with clients, colleagues and consultants
Motivated and experienced in leading, mentoring, and coaching others to develop their career goals as they enter the profession
Self-directed, critically minded, a problem solver, displaying a growth mindset
Ambitious to develop your career, client relationships and practice speciality
Proficient in visual communication and documentation utilising AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office Suite, with confidence in 3D modelling an advantage
Be tertiary qualified with a degree or master’s in landscape architecture (or related subjects); being a registered member of NZILA (or international equivalent) would be an advantage
