UPDATED INFO on SOLA Seminar Series - Landscape Foundation Trustees

28 Apr 2021, Online

The School of Landscape Architecture, Lincoln University presents the SOLA seminar series for semester 1.

The upcoming seminar is a special topic, presented by the Landscape Foundation Trustees

Abstract
Like landscape the book Kia Whakanuia te Whenua People Place Landscape holds layers of information and stories within stories. Trustees of the Landscape Foundation who produced the book share the background to the book’s inception, and its stories, from the volunteer landscape graduate Al Newsome, to whom the book is dedicated, to the ‘call to action’ on a view of the landscape to address the issues of our time, and a Māori perspective, to the successful practice of people like Wraight and Associates and Megan Wraight’s career. The Trustees will take you to the people and their work, such as the curation by Carolyn Hill which turned the collection of articles into a comprehensive story, the careers including that of student writer Te Kerekere Roycroft to Andrew Craig who now paints the earth’s crust as landscape interpretation.  We will explain how the international writers came to be included and contribute to the book. Stories not included are discussed such as eminent British landscape architect Hal Moggridge’s article on adaptive reuse of a historic landscape, to the story intended about Rangiriri. We explain why Josie McClutchie’s images of devastation of Tairawhiti’s beaches and waterways caused by careless forestry logging (and others) were not included. We conclude with Sam Bourne’s vision for work on landscape issues facing Aotearoa New Zealand focusing on collaboration among researchers through landscape led thinking and much needed resources such as Knowledge Hubs.
