Embracing the Urban Wild

26 Jul 2022, Online and in person

Embracing the Urban Wild

Aotearoa’s natural beauty is close to the hearts of many of us. Pristine landscapes and unique native species have become powerful symbols of New Zealand identity, but they are far from a city-dweller’s experience.

As our city has grown, many special ecosystems and native species have disappeared; as the planet warms up, ecosystems are being further disrupted and habitats lost. In New Zealand alone, about 4000 species are threatened or at risk of extinction.

Our response to climate change can make Ōtautahi Christchurch a whole lot better for other species. In turn, this richness or biodiversity, which provides vital systems for life on Earth, can help with climate change resilience.

Join us for ‘Embracing the urban wild’ to hear from experts, passionate people and local groups bringing biodiversity to the city.

Learn about the steps we can take to embrace wilderness in urban streets and backyards.

This event is part of a series of Christchurch Conversations exploring how the city can achieve its climate goals.
